Análise da epiderme foliar durante a aclimatização de bromélia micropropagada Horticultura Brasileira
Tavares,Armando R; Giampaoli,Patricia; Machado,Juliana; Kanashiro,Shoey; Chu,Edison P; Pita,Patrícia B.

Jussara palm seed germination under different shade levels Horticultura Brasileira
Tavares,Armando R; Ramos,Danilo P; Aguiar,Francismar Francisco A; Kanashiro,Shoey.
Jussara palm (Euterpe edulis) is a native plant of the Atlantic rainy forest, with large economic interest. The species is shade-tolerant and currently it is restricted to certain areas of difficult access. The most effective way to reintroduce it into the environment or increase the population density for conservation and commercial exploitation is promoting seed propagation. Considering that the jussara palm is an ombrophylous species, this experiment aimed to simulate forest conditions, with different shade levels, to analyze its influence on seed germination. After processing the seeds (depulping), 500 seeds were sown in containers (20 x 30 x 8 cm) filled with forest ground and grown in five shade levels (0, 20, 40,60, and 80%, simulated using black...

Orchid in vitro growth as affected by nitrogen levels in the culture medium Horticultura Brasileira
Tavares,Armando R; Young,Jorge Luiz M; Ori,Sandra S; Kanashiro,Shoey; Lima,Giuseppina PP; Chu,Edison Paulo; Suzuki,Rogério M.
In vitro cultivation is the main propagation method for the family Orchidaceae, whereas nitrogen is the most important nutrient in the culture media. This work was carried out to study the influence of different nitrogen concentrations on the in vitro growth of the orchid Phalaenopsis amabilis. Nitrogen concentrations varied by altering the ionic balance of the Murashige & Skoog (MS) culture medium. Plants, 360 days old, were cultivated in liquid MS, modified with 7.5, 15, 30, 45, and 60 mM N. After 180 days, we assessed plant and root length, number of leaves and roots, and fresh and dry weight of leaves, roots and plants. Treatments were assigned to completely randomized plots, with four replications. Plots consisted of five three-plant flasks....

Urea concentration on vegetative development and nutrition of Cactaceae epiphytic species Horticultura Brasileira
Tavares,Armando R; Ferreira,Mauricio L; Jocys,Teresa; Kanashiro,Shoey; Silva,Karina G.
ABSTRACT Rhipsalis paradoxa, Rhipsalis baccifera and Hatiora salicornioides are epiphytic cacti from the Atlantic Forest. They have a great ornamental potential due to the exotic characteristic of their joints (stems segments). The study aimed to evaluate the growth and development of roots and shoots as well as macronutrient and micronutrient contents in the joints of these species fertilized with different concentrations of urea as a nitrogen source. The study also analyzed the importance of the root system on nitrogen absorption. Plants were weekly irrigated with modified Hoagland & Arnon solutions with 0, 16.7, 33.3, 49.9 or 66.6 mM N applied as urea. After 180 days of cultivation, plants were separated into joints and roots for biometric and...
